A-Z of data protection: terms you need to know
qualitative risk analysis
• a type of risk analysis that ranks and classifies risks according to 1) the likelihood of the risk event occurring, and 2) the impact, should the event occur. It uses a simple rating scale to classify risks (e.g. high, medium, low) and is much simpler to do than a quantitative risk analysis
quantitative risk analysis
• a type of risk analysis that uses numerical data such as costs, cycle time and monetary value of business impact to calculate risk. While this method is able to assign a numerical value to a particular risk, it is more tedious and is dependent on the data available
quantum encryption
• a more advanced type of encryption that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to encrypt data, which is becoming more relevant with the rise of quantum computing
quasi-identifier
• an identifier or attribute that cannot identify an individual on its own, but may identify an individual when combined with other quasi-identifiers. Some examples of quasi-identifiers include date of birth, zip code and job title
• quasi-identifiers are commonly found in multiple datasets, and can thus be used to link datasets and establish the identity of an individual
quishing
• a type of phishing done through QR codes, wherein scanning the QR code directs the user to a malicious site, loads malware, or opens up illegal access to your account
