Indonesians Tax ID Numbers Leaked, Jokowi Urged to Form Personal Data Protection Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chairperson of the Cyber Security Research Agency CISSReC, Pratama Persadha, highlighted the rampant personal data breaches in Indonesia. The most recent instance was the alleged leak of Indonesian taxpayer-identification numbers (NPWPs) data by infamous hacker Bjorka. According to Pratama, these incidents occur due to President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's neglect to form a Personal Data Protection Agency. "One of the reasons for the rampant data breaches is the lack of administrative sanction or fine against companies or organizations that experience data breaches," he said in an official statement on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Pratama said only the government's data protection agency can doll out punishments against abovementioned parties.
