The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), the first piece of legislation in the Mainland dedicated to the protection of personal information, was passed by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress on 20 August 2021 and was effective from 1 November 2021. The PIPL includes among its mandates the requirement for Personal information processors that process personal information up to the threshold as prescribed by the national cyberspace authorities to appoint PIPO (personal information protection officers) who shall be responsible for supervising the personal information processing activities and the implementation of protective measures. There’s a lot to know, there’s a lot at stake and there’s a lot of opportunity for privacy professionals with the right training and education.
This programme is the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certified Information Privacy Professional/China (CIPP/CN) programme.

Celine Chew Fellow of Information Privacy, CIPM, CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPT, AIGP, EXIN (GDPR, Infosec), GRCP As a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Head of Learning and Development of Straits Interactive, Celine provides insights into the behavioural change and learning required for teams to embrace change initiatives. She offers comprehensive training for Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and companies, propelling digital transformation in data protection and governance. Celine also has extensive training experience internationally and specialises in the social, emotional and cognitive aspects of learning. She is also an executive coach to senior executives in multinational and regional companies. Combining both her educator, musical and change management background, Celine crafted and trained a tailored curricula for educators on utilising ChatGPT for teaching and learning, training educators' adeptness with these tools. Sarah Wang Han She is one of the course developers for the module Data Protection Principles in Asia Part 4 - Taiwan, China offered by SMU Academy. She is a skilled facilitator and a regular speaker in several webinars on Personal Data Protection, with a focus on compliance. Over the years, she has assisted many companies in Singapore and Malaysia on their path to compliance with data protection law. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, with a focus on data protection law and holds the Certified Privacy Professional, Europe (CIPP/E) awarded by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). She often writes articles on data protection and has publications in European Data Protection Law Review. | |
Lyn Boxall She is one of the co-authors of "99 Privacy Breaches to Beware of" and specializes in data protection and information security, and practices general commercial law for a wide range of local and international clients as well. She holds international certifications in privacy/data protection awarded by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), namely, Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified information Privacy Professional, Asia (CIPP/A), Certified Privacy Professional, Europe (CIPP/E) and Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP). She is also certified by Exin (the global independent certification institute for ICT Professionals) as a Privacy and Data Protection Practitioner. | |
Nicholas Cheong Nick is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) for Europe and Asia, certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He has also been certified by the Open Compliance and Ethics Group (“OCEG”) as a Governance, Risk and Compliance Professional (GRCP) and GRC Auditor (GRCA). Nick has benefited from 25 years of legal practice, managing risks as a diving instructor and as a drug supervision officer. He is from the first batch of PDPC approved trainers when PDPC first launched its data protection course. He has provided data protection training and consultancy since 2014. |
PREREQUISITE
This is not a foundation course, participants are expected to have the following prerequisites:
• Good knowledge of data protection; and
• Tertiary level qualifications; and/or
• At least 2 years of working experience

The overall objective of this course is to achieve a CIPP/CN credential with comprehensive PIPL knowledge, perspective and understanding to ensure compliance and data protection success in China—and to take advantage of the career opportunity this sweeping legislation represents.

If no seats are available for the applied date, you will be notified immediately and given an alternative date. Straits Interactive reserves the right to change the course schedules, programmes and content without prior notice. We also reserve the right to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances.
CANCELLATION
Requests for withdrawal or postponement must be made in writing to Straits Interactive. Refunds arising from course withdrawal/deferment will be subjected to the following terms:
More than 2 weeks before course commencement: Full refund.
Less than 2 weeks before course commencement: 50% refund.
On or after course commencement: No refund.
