A
access principle
• an organisation must allow an individual to access his/her personal data upon request, including records of how his data was used or disclosed
• an organisation must also correct errors in its personal data records, and ensure that corrections are relayed to other organisations to whom the data was disclosed within the past year
• one of the 11 data protection obligations under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)
• one of the rights of data subjects (individuals) as specified in the Philippine Data Privacy Act
access request
• refers to an individual’s request to know what personal data an organisation possesses about him/her, where it has been obtained, how it has been (and is being) used, and to whom it has been shared
• individuals have a right to request and obtain these records from an organisation
accountability principle
• states that the organisation is responsible for the personal data entrusted to them by customers and employees
• exemplified by implementing measures to secure personal data in its possession, such as: appointing a data protection officer (DPO), creating and implementing data protection policies, and making sure that employees are aware and trained on the implementation of these policies.
